Domain Controller 1
This is the primary domain controller. It is the first part of the network the user passes through when logging in, and it contains the login information.
Domain Controller 2
This is the backup domain controller. It's job is to handle the login system in the event that the primary domain controller (DC1) fails.
File Storage System
This is the server file storage. Here you can find the the network drives, and all system folders. This includes the public directory, student folders, et cetera.
Switch
These are switches, located in closets in the building. Switches are a device that filter and forward packets between segments oa a LAN. Switches are designed to operate the data link layer, and sometimes the network layer.
Packet
A packet is a piece of information transmitted over a network. A key feature of packets is that they contain the destination address in addition to data.
Fiber Optic Cable
Cables made of glass or plastic that transmit data at a higher rate than metal cables. They are less suseptable to interference than metal cables, in addition to being lighter, thinner, and capable of digital data transmission. (Opposed to analog) The most prominent flaws with these cables is that they are are more fragile than metal cables, and are more difficult to install.
Workstation
In a networking environment, a workstation is any computer connected to the LAN. It can be any workstation computer, or a personal computer.
RJ-45 Jack
This is the abbreveated form of Registered Jack-45. It is an eight-wire connecter usually used to connect computers to a LAN. RJ-45 connectors look like an RJ-11 connector used in phone lines.
